Introduction of newly arrived whiskey
The whisky introduced in this issue is a Japanese single malt made exclusively from Azumi sake, which is prepared in wooden fermentation tanks, which the Azumi Distillery has been starting to do since 2020.

Since this is the first release of a single malt Azumi peated using only wooden fermentation vats, they named it 1st Wooden Washback.
Heavy peated malt with a phenol value of 50 ppm.
Enjoy the complex and gorgeous aroma and smoky flavor unique to Azumi.

Azumi Distillery

The history of Azumi Distillery dates back to the Yamazakura Brewery, which obtained a whisky license in 1946.
The brewery's history as the Sasanokawa Sake Brewery is over 300 years old, dating back to 1710 when it was founded south of Lake Inawashiro.
In the 1980s, during the period of rapid economic growth after the turmoil of the postwar period, Cherry Whisky was called "Cherry of the North, Toa of the East, and Mars of the West," and the Cherry Whisky produced by the Sasanogawa Brewery gained popularity as the leading whisky in the North.

However, as time went on and tastes changed, whisky became unfavorable, and the casks filled with whisky were left to sleep in the back of the warehouse.

In 2003, Higashi no Toa also closed its doors, and after many twists and turns, Sasanokawa Brewery took over the Hanyu distillery's original sake.
Ichiro's Malt is the original spirit that played a role in the Japanese whisky culture being introduced to the world.

Then, in the winter of 2016, the current Azumi Distillery will start operations.
Based on Azumi non-piped distillate, we carefully selected and blended Azumi distillate aged in several different types of casks. It has a fresh, gorgeous aroma and a clean sweetness that is typical of the Azumi distillery.
