New Whiskey Arrivals
The Syrah barrels used for this edition, the seventh release in the Cask Exploration series, were sourced from a French wine producer dedicated to organic and biodynamic winemaking.
Filled with the Syrah variety, known for its powerful, full-bodied red wines, the barrels bring rich red fruit aromas and layers of delicate spice flavors to the single malt whisky, complementing the distinctive peat smoke of Port Charlotte.
Alcohol at bottling was 54.41 TP3T. Malted to 40 ppm, the 2013 Port Charlotte spirit was first aged in first fill (751 TP3T) and second fill (251 TP3T) bourbon barrels.
Then recasked into first fill Syrah barrels in 2018.
After spending four years there, when the wine had reached its maximum influence, we again re-casked it in refill bourbon barrels and promoted the marriage with whiskey.
Tasting Notes
A wonderful combination of rich fruit and thick peat.
The sweetness of the caramel aroma first hits the nose, followed gently by spice from the Syrah-infused oak.
Barbecue-inspired peat smoke and smoked oak coat the tongue, while candied rind, freshly picked mango and brown sugar appear in between.
Smoke and gentle waves of Islay sea air push and long drift, while faint coconut and cocoa powder bring a rounded, creamy softness.

The malty sweetness and flavor characteristic of Port Charlotte are matched with the black pepper spiciness and soft, rich tannins from the Syrah barrels, making it a perfect finish for Islay lovers.
