An incredibly eye-catching and very irregular bottle has just arrived!
The Dornoch distillery, which began operations in 2016, is a challenging distillery that releases single malt as well as blended (malt) whiskey and gin.
This bottle is also very unique, with 68.4% long-aged blended malt, distilled in 1969 and aged for 54 years...

What a surprise, the notation is "spirits".
The reason for this is that Scotch rules prevent the use of the designation "whiskey" for whiskey that is less than 40%.
The long aging process has lowered the alcohol content so much that it has to be labeled as a spirit on the label.
This is blended with 19.4% 6-year old distillate from the Donoghoe distillery and 12.2% 10-year old Carilla to create a complex flavor that is not only old.
At 40.1%, it is on the edge of its range, but its rich aroma is reminiscent of cask strength, and should satisfy malt drinkers as well!
