Introduction of Whiskey
Mars Malt Le Papillon" is a series of whiskies that uses the motif of butterflies inhabiting Japan to express the splendor of Japan's natural environment and its seasonal climate, which forms the environment in which whisky is matured.
The theme of this product is the "Miyama Monk butterfly," which inhabits the alpine zone in central Honshu, and is a triple cask single malt whiskey with the image of a noble figure with its wings fringed with a fresh peach color, distilled at the Mars Komagatake distillery, and vatted from three barrels aged in bourbon barrels.
.
The Miyamamonkicho, Japan's world-class beauty, is a species of alpine butterfly that lives in the alpine zone of Shinshu.
The whole body is trimmed in deep pink, and the figure is stylish and graceful.
Our first encounter was in July 1973 at the summit of Mt. Nekodake in the Asama Mountains of Shinshu.
Climbing the mountain in the scorching sun was difficult, and I was exhausted when I reached the summit.
A small butterfly is flying at a furious pace just below the ground surface in the debris zone beyond the forest limit.
I was surprised at how fast they flew! I had assumed that it would fly in a graceful dance.
It was a reminder to me of the resilience of the people living in such a harsh environment.
Distilled at the Mars Komagatake Distillery in 2018, this triple cask single malt whiskey evokes the "elegance of an alpine butterfly".
Mars Komagatake Distillery
In 1949, Hombo Shuzo, which had been striving to make shochu, a Japanese distilled spirit, in Kagoshima in search of an ideal land, obtained a license to produce whiskey. Since then, the company has held on to the dream of "someday making real whiskey that makes the most of the Japanese climate.
First, in 1960, he established the Yamanashi Mars Winery, a factory for wine and whiskey production in Yamanashi.
In order to engage in whisky production in earnest, we searched for an even more ideal location.
The natural conditions for whisky making are very severe: cold climate with clean air, moderate humidity, and good quality water.
In 1985, in search of land that met these conditions, Hombo Shuzo Co., Ltd. opened a whiskey distillery at an altitude of 798 meters at the foot of Komagatake Mountain in the Central Alps of Nagano Prefecture, in search of the best environment for whiskey production.
We also have other rare Le Papillon series in our store, so comparing drinks is also recommended!
